Cell’s Stank Aura

Terrorking

Really feel like Cell should’ve kept his soul-laden aura throughout. It’s a great visual and reminds how many people he’s killed. You need that reminding when he’s perfect, because boy is he charismatic.

Tesla Coil

Gotta agree with Terror on that one. One of my annoyances with DBZ – or maybe it’s fairer to say a reason why I don’t think it aged well – is that the fighting styles are so similar. The visual aura might not be a completely unique fighting style, but it’s a pretty striking difference that highlights how creepy Cell is supposed to be.

Also this episode made me sad because Piccolo got the crap beaten out of him. Sigh.

Carly Nagisa

You can honestly say its dragonball tradition for Piccolo to be the strongest for a time before getting curbstomped by the main villain. Are we sure the Wulf effect didn’t originate with Piccolo? That aside, I do like the visuals for Cell’s powerup and while I can understand the golden aura, I think it could have worked a whole lot better if it was tailored differently due to the other cells inside of him.

Rob Lucci

I liked the pacing. Didn’t go too fast, but it didn’t slack like DBZ tends to do.

Gundam: IBO

Mars here is sure like desert earth.

Terrorking

I don’t like Barbatos’ design much. The fight animation was good and brutal, but we need some more Gundams, or this one needs to change.

Tesla Coil

Barbatos Slim is the only mecha to have gold medals in both limbo and sex.

Carly Nagisa

Why is it in most gundam series, especially ones of old where the Heroes find some sort of old gundam or be the only ones who have them in a battlefield with Zakus and manage to win with them for a large chunk of the series. If a moble suit gundam is suppose to be the highest of craft, you would think the army would afford to use them more often even if its for their lower divisions.

CORAL

Terrorking

The action stops in the first third of the episode. The other 2/3s are the generic exposition you’d expect from a Gundam show. The guy pictured is the resident douchebag high-ranking armyman that only cares about looking good, as is customary for Gundam. Hopefully we can see how this guy ticks to add some depth to him. Other than that, it was an okay episode.

Tesla Coil

I wasn’t sure what to think about this episode. It was slow, which helped it expand on the characters it introduced last episode and it wasn’t absolutely packed with exposition. I’m starting to appreciate a few characters now. But still, at the end of the episode, I believe I said, “That was it?! DBZ did more than this!”.

Carly Nagisa

At least the transition was better than Dimension W’s attempt at it.

Rob Lucci

This is extremely standard fare Gundam so far. Very predictable, no subversiveness. You have the asshole commander, the outcast young teenage main character piloting a mech against da ebil gubmint, there’s a royal/high ranking lady with an assistant, etc. I’m hoping for something big to drop.

In prison.

Terrorking

Hey, maybe fatman will be of use here and stop being a jerk.

Tesla Coil

Sure would be nice.

Carly Nagisa

Why couldn’t it have been the killer clown who was the fifth member? Now that would have been bloody amazing.

Rob Lucci

Is Fatman this show’s Kabuto? Probably.

The locals seem nice

Terrorking

Hahaha, silly me.

Tesla Coil

The prison had a pretty interesting setup and the whole ‘majority rule’ thing would’ve been really cool if it weren’t for the padding. I have a feeling I should check out this episode’s manga equivalent. Having Leoreo (or whatever his name is) yell at Fatman for a few minutes every time he pressed the wrong button seemed excessive, but if it just happened in the background of one panel, it would’ve been a lot smoother.

Carly Nagisa

Despite being different enough, this still give me some sort of similar vibe towards another concept that Togashi did for his previous manga YYH. This almost screams Maze castle to me and while its not the exact same, it covers enough to feel like it. And again we see how Naruto continues to copy the superior manga for its own chuunin exams. Least its not as blatant as the first two attempts.

SURRENDER

Terrorking

Basically, the Chunin Exams’ entire structure is stolen from the Hunter Exam.

Tesla Coil

I don’t like the fat guy. He’s pretty obviously made to be hated. I’ve probably hit a bad couple episodes to come in on, but hopefully the guy just leaves for the next episode and we can focus more on the characters who are meant to be likable.

Carly Nagisa

Really wish these guys just said fuck the rules and murder the fat guy right there.

Rob Lucci

I see the similarities to the Chunin Exams in certain areas, but the primary difference is that we see the primary cast fighting against mooks instead of a secondary cast. This seems inevitable in terms of arc progression, so I don’t really feel like Kishimoto “stole” this segment.

Japan vs. America – WW2 Prologue

Terrorking

This episode was fan-fucking-tastic. I was laughing from start to finish. This really made me proud to be ‘Murican.

Carly Nagisa

11/10, best episode hands down.

Rob Lucci

suigetsu

Terrorking

Even though we all know zabuza sword cannot be beat, did we need a whole episode devoted to finding it? We didn’t. NAS just wants to pad. Not that the canon stuff is much better, or at all. At least this filler has some team bonding, which is something that never happens for these losers in the manga.

Carly Nagisa

None of this matters in the slightest so why am I still mad having to watch this shit again?

Rob Lucci

Not gonna lie. After that Champloo, I didn’t give a shit about Fillerden, so I watched Smash 4 KTAR’s finals instead of this crap. Suigetsu is a pointless and random character and we’re about to see another terrible character.

One Piece

gecko moriah is fucking huge

Terrorking

Is that a blow-up doll?

Carly Nagisa

Oh one piece and your unnatural sizes.

Rob Lucci

The laughs this arc are unsufferable, holy shit.
