DBZKai

Pictured: What he should’ve done from the start.

It was at this moment Frieza knew he fucked up.

VEINS

Probably the most iconic image of DBZ.

Rob Lucci

It’s bizarre how this moved at a snail’s pace but picked up like a racecar at the end. Goku going super saiyan is great, but it’s hard to get over Frieza’s stupidity over the Spirit Bomb. The best I can say is “at least it didn’t kill him, that’d be underwhelming.”

DJ JayRap

I don’t even know what to say. I got in here knowing what was going to happen, but Frieza just legitimately has brain things in this episode. He’s about to launch Death Ball and then looks up at the giant energy ball all like “WHAAAAT” as if he forgot it existed suddenly. And forgot that’s what Goku was standing around for. At least the Super Saiyan part was great!

Also: \o/

Tesla Coil

Goku’s dialogue during his transformation: “NRGRN GNNNRNGN RNRNGNR GGNNRN GNRG”

Terrorking

It’s amusing how awful Toei is. This entire sequence wasn’t even an entire chapter in the manga. With that out of the way, I immensely enjoyed every last bit of it.

Flame_Effigy

I’m told the manga did this all better. That’s good, because I hated most of this. Frieza was made to look completely incompetent, which maybe he is, but if he is then that just makes the arc even worse.

Carly Nagisa

I know Frieza like to toy with his enemies and wanted vengeance for losing his wish, but there has to be a time when even Frieza just cut the bullshit and kill them. The fact that he can blow up the planet at any time makes him appear even stupider as a tyrant.

That aside, it’s also bothersome to realize that Frieza could have just dodged the spirit bomb and let Goku basically kill everyone on the planet with his spirit bomb due to the backlash.

Also, why exactly did Piccolo have to be there? His death would make this entire trip pointless. Lastly, I want to like the Super Saiyan transformation, but the fact they didn’t add super dragon soul to this transformation makes me angry.

Vaioumon

Kai accomplished it’s job, it seems. Every individual action only takes a quarter of an episode instead of an individual episode on its own.

Akame Ga Kill

I’ve seen enough hentai to know where this is going.

Rob Lucci

A new kind of DANGER BEAST species begins to ravage the countryside, and this lady here and her husband are some victims. This seems kind of unnecessary considering, well, we saw the same exact sort of scene in the mine at the end of the last episode.

Tesla Coil

“Honey, have you heard about the new exposition?” “Don’t worry. There’s no way the exposition could get in here.” *Door breaks down* “No! It’s the exposition! It’s eating me! Why, exposition? Whyyyyyy?!”

DJ JayRap

These characters sure seemed like they’d be important. Yup, they sure did. We needed the shock value of random people being consumed by DANGER BEASTS! Is it too late to call Danger Beasts a dumb name?

Terrorking

As per usual in this show, the guy dies quickly and painlessly, but the woman is left so she can make pained reactions as her death stalks her. It’s just so blatantly exploitative. No, AkG writer, just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean I’m gonna care that she’s dead. You can stop doing that now.

Carly Nagisa

“Golly jeez, I sure hope nothing bad happen to use nameless characters. Oh noes they’re eating him, and then they’re gonna eat me! OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!” Seriously, Troll 2 has better acting then this.

Vaioumon

I’m new to this show. Here’s some people, we learn nothing about them and then they die. This makes it…like every other anime with monsters so far!

OW MY SPINE

Rob Lucci

Esdeath is informed of this new DANGER BEAST, and the Jaegers are dispatched to kill them. For what evil purpose!? To… save civilians. Huh. This isn’t presented as anything special, either. It’s just another bizarre inconsistency regarding the antagonists. Also, Esdeath’s gotta pose so we can sell body pillows.

Tesla Coil

I actually thought this pose was pretty cool, albeit way too dramatic for Esdeath saying “yeah, I’ll go kill a Danger Beast for you”. Then I noticed that her legs were facing the exact wrong direction.

DJ JayRap

Let’s save the civilians… evilly!

Terrorking

What’s the point of those furry string things.

Carly Nagisa

I say it again, if Esdeath was in another show then her entire character would be a whole lot better. But she’s not so this scene once again shows how pointless they’re trying to be by making our bad guys even more generic. Also, humans don’t bend like that. Is this the work of her trump card?

Vaioumon

Oh noes, the Kingdom is run by evil fat people and evil people that nobody saw was crazy as they were receiving their training and weapons to become super soldiers. Just like…every other anime.

Featured: DANGER BEASTS

Rob Lucci

Bols and Seryu quickly dispatch of the DANGER BEASTS, making them look… pretty weak, I gotta say. Esdeath comes in at the end and freezes them and everything. A decent bit of time of dedicated to building these things up, and when they’re not murdering civilians, they kinda suck.

Tesla Coil

Wait, this was the enemy that was hyped up all episode? I was sort of expecting a Danger Beast so dangerously beastly that Night Raid and the Jaegers would have to team up. But nope, apparently they were complete jokes. …Okay.

DJ JayRap

So the new enemies are dispatched pretty easily. I mean, I know mooks are always liable to die rather fast, but these weren’t presented like mooks first. It’s only been one episode later? How are they dying as fast as your standard mooks?!

Terrorking

Characters: “Oh no, a new type of Danger Beast is out there, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before!”

Me: “You mean like last week when we had actual real dinosaurs? Or the week before when we had a three-horned lion thing?”

You can’t pull “it’s a dangerous new type” when you haven’t explained what the less-dangerous old type was.

Flame_Effigy

BEHOLD. The new and even MORE dangerous Dangerb-oh they’re dead. They died already. The plot of this episode is gone.

Carly Nagisa

Do we ever get an explanation to Danger Beasts? Like where they come from? What are the different types? How are they operate?  And most importantly, what the fuck makes them so dangerous? Fuck this show.

Vaioumon

Oh no! The monsters that are super dangerous are easily slaughtered by the super soldier humans/villains! Just like…every other anime.

Gimp Shyman’s family.

Rob Lucci

Oh hey, another one of those rare scenes that kinda works. Bols introduces his family and all of that, but I’m still stuck on the exposition that happens prior to this scene that seems to exist to inform the audience of obvious things that they knew already.

Tesla Coil

That’s what happens when you resolve the episode’s plot in one scene.

DJ JayRap

AH! NO! THE INCONSISTENT TONE! IT BUUUUUURNS

Terrorking

Okay, so Bohls here, despite being a pretty okay guy emphasizes that he’s not a nice person because he’s done some really messed up things in the past. Sure, whatever, that’s okay. Could’ve been played for drama, but instead we’re greeted with his family and it becomes a “so wacky lol” scene. I feel like he would be a character that would serve another story well.

Flame_Effigy

Shit. I actually don’t want Bols to die after seeing his daughter.

Carly Nagisa

If I didn’t know any better, they were setting up this dark scene to show us just how morally grey Bohls is. As well as the fact that just cause you were order to do something doesn’t always guaranteed that it would be noble and just. But nope, all matter of interesting development is washed away just from this scene alone.

Now if I know my Seiren correctly, this would be the perfect set up to have him lose his family to make him suffer or them to be killed off just to show how cruel the world is. Nonsense, they wouldn’t do something so blatantly obvious….right?

Vaioumon

So like, how did the making of that mask go? Did he just take a really long piece of fabric, put the eye and mouth pieces on, make sure it fits right, and then just tie the rest?

Also, the first person that has a life outside of work is the arsonist gimp, go figure.

Night Raid’s new fortress.

Rob Lucci

Najenda says that all the fortresses they make look similar, but that doesn’t really work when Susanoo built a cottage in the last episode that looked absolutely nothing like this, and could presumably do better. If it is past his ability, then it’s extremely convenient for the animators to use this as an excuse to animate a same-y uninspired fortress. Learn from Star Wars and LotR, scrubs!

Also, they mention that there’s a nice hot springs here. I sense more naked lady antics!

Tesla Coil

I don’t even remember this part.

DJ JayRap

Okay, I know I dislike this show just as much as my associates, but I don’t remember this happening. Did I pass out?

Terrorking

THIS is inconspicuous?!

Flame_Effigy

And now the team gets another hideout, which is mentioned by the team to look exactly the same as the old one. It’s almost like nothing up to this point that has happened really mattered. It’s exactly that. Nothing that has happened up to this point has mattered. What’s even the plot to this show?

Carly Nagisa

Just how many fucking bases do they have in the mountains?!?!? I’m honestly surprised Esdeath didn’t find them all by now.

Vaioumon

It’s a base. I’ve no context for comments about it.

True bros – Susanoo promising to be Tatsumi’s wingman.

Rob Lucci

Another slight character building attempt between these two that also kinda-sorta-works out. It at least integrates the otherwise pointless training scenes with some attempt at developing relationships.

Tesla Coil

Except we didn’t learn anything we didn’t already know…

DJ JayRap

Oh, I do remember this. Maybe I wasn’t passed out. I liked this scene. Although that’s not saying much because everything else quickly debunks anything I ever like out of this show.

Terrorking

Susanoo continues to just be dragged along by everyone else. He’s still okay in my book since none of the badness thus far is on him.

Carly Nagisa

You do know that  you’re talking to a living weapon right? It doesn’t have any actual emotions or can understand what you’re trying to get. What? You mean he’s basically like a human and should have just been an actual character instead? You’re silly.

Vaioumon

These outfits, man. I mean, if this was a modern day setting, sure. But this is some weird medieval setting and there’s nazi uniforms, Japanese priest stuffs, sweater vests, gothic lolita, school girl outfits, gimp suits, and the list goes on and there should be no reference for any of it.

I see London, I see France!

Rob Lucci

This came outta fuckin’ nowhere. They were discussing plot, and suddenly Tatsumi’s informed his fly is down. The girls laugh, and socially awkward Akame says she’ll watch for it. I give it points for originality… but… why? What the fuck is this show’s tone?

Tesla Coil

It wasn’t that this happened that bugged me. It was how friggin’ long the gag went. Also, I have to ask, why did Leone laugh at Tatsumi for having his fly down, when Leone wears THIS?!

DJ JayRap

Why this gag lasted further than 40 seconds is beyond me. What is tone? Because seriously, we were getting some plot going, and then the plot runs away on the wings of Tatsumi being stupid and not knowing the rule of X-Y-Z.

Terrorking

At least Susanoo’s OCD gag is consistent. That’s all I can say about this dumb scene that went on too long. Oh hey, that’s 2 more things. I am the genius.

Flame_Effigy

And after an uninteresting, but not directly offensive episode, AGK veers into this and reminds me just why I hate it.

The worst part of this scene wasn’t this awful gag, it was Jimmy immediately agreeing to help the empire in order to get rid of the new dastardly Dangerbeast Raremons.

Remember those? The ones that immediately got one shot? Yeah well this doesn’t go anywhere so it doesn’t matter if you don’t remember them.

Carly Nagisa

So wait, instead of letting the government do it’s job and risk losing man power. We’re gonna put ourselves at risk to kill these Danger Beasts just because we wanna protect innocent people? Fuck this show and this stupid gag!

Vaioumon

The good guys are all one big family off the battlefield, and must go through wacky hijinks. Just like…every other anime.

Rob Lucci

Esdeath discusses the DANGER BEASTS with Run (Yes. That’s the blonde dude’s name.) and it’s revealed that Dr. Stylish seemingly transformed them from humans. Then, her personality changes again when she starts talking about flowers she can use to torture people.

Tesla Coil

In all honesty, a field of flowers that help torture people is a pretty awesome symbol. It’s way too good for this show or any of the characters in it.

DJ JayRap

I actually don’t have anything to say. The rapid shift to a gag involving Esdeath and her “I like to torture people lol” personality just made me lose all sense of words. And I’m words.

Terrorking

This legitimately looks like a screenshot taken from one of those awful harem dating visual novels.

Flame_Effigy

Who the hell is Run.

“Lol these flowers are pretty. I use them to torture people. I’m esdeath. I’m a bad guy.” –Esdeath, 2015

Carly Nagia

I now know why we need several close-ups to Esdeath’s body every time she talks. It’s so they can distract people from her random as fuck character changes or dialogue that would make your brain hurt when you think about it.

Vaioumon

The female bad guy is crazy and likes showing off her boobs. Just like…every other anime.

Lubbock Texas sharing a wacky moment after almost expressing genuine human emotion.

Rob Lucci

This frustrated me. As much of an infodump Lubbock’s backstory was, his VA and dialogue actually sold it with what little personality Lubbock had been given thus far. Sadly, this series is absolute trash, so him sharing details about his life is probably a death flag.

This series presents a very not-clever way of foreshadowing death by using the excuse of “we developed em’ a lil bit” to kill anybody off. I dunno if the writers got the memo, but saying “This is Bob. His sister died, and he’s brooding.” then killing Bob off doesn’t mean Bob was a compelling character if the rest of his time was spent standing around and explaining things. It’s shit, I tell you! SHIT!

Tesla Coil

I just love how no one ever asks characters to tell their backstory. It’s just like “Hey, can you pass the mustard?” “I can, but first you need to know about my dark and brooding past.”

DJ JayRap

It’s very telling when one watches a show, someone’s about to spoil their backstory, and the person watching is going “NO STOP”. No it isn’t because this show uses backstories as a shitty death flag, but because they just don’t wanna hear it anymore. Thankfully, Jimmy 1.0 actually stops the backstory half-way through, but Lubbock insists on finishing his story.

Jimmy tried to be our hero, but he failed.

Terrorking

It always amuses me when a character just quite randomly begins to share their backstory with almost no prompting from the plot or any of the other characters to do so.

Flame_Effigy

Lubbock shared his backstory! Death flag! Death flag!

Took long enough. Lubbock makes this show worse with his wacky horny teenager hijinks.

Carly Nagisa

So let me get this straight. Lubbock basically said fuck you to his family, put his life in danger, killed countless people, is probably gonna put his entire country in ruin with this rebellion, all just to try and get laid with his dream girl? Sigh, and here I thought Mime had the worst backstory here. Why are these assholes the heroes again?!?!?!

Vaioumon

Backstory death flag? Just like…every other anime.

Status: Horny

Rob Lucci

I’m not joking. She literally goes from serious mode to soaked panties at the drop of a hat. To emphasize: This is not complexity. Character complexity involves a series of different character traits fit together in a way that makes sense when you understand that character’s psyche. This is why some characters who do seemingly contrary things can make sense: If the writing is good, it can justify it.

Esdeath is about 3-5 different personalities haphazardly strung together in a way that this series can’t possibly ever adequately explain. It doesn’t have the skill. I’m not sure any writer could pull a save on this. Esdeath is an awful, awful, awful character that makes no fucking sense. She’s stoic. No, she’s horny for a guy in a submissive way. No, she’s a brutal oppressive torturer. No, she’s a nurturing leader. No, she punishes her men for failure.

Tesla Coil

All of what Rob said is true, but Esdeath’s characterization isn’t even close to the worst part about this scene. How do you think Esdeath and Tatsumi reunited? Go on, guess.

If you guessed that Esdeath happened to be flying around on a Danger Beast she tamed, just so happened to spot a human-shaped figure a hundred feet away, that figure just so happened to be Tatsumi – who had just split up from Lubbock – and jumped out of the sky to greet it, congratulations.

The “Esdeath wants to find Tatsumi” plot has advanced(?) due to the biggest friggin’ coincidence in the history of anything.

DJ JayRap

Y’know, I have no real words for this either. So I’ll go with what Rob and Tesla Coil already said. Except I will add to this: Fuck this show.

Flame_Effigy

I liked the part where she was riding on Dangerbeast Actual Dragon and then dove off of it and created an explosion. Then Jimmy created an explosion. In her pants.

Carly Nagisa

What bothers me aside from what Rob and Tesla said is the fact that Jimmy suddenly took off his armor after jumping up the mountain. Shouldn’t he at least confirmed if there was nothing dangerous around first? And why didn’t Esdeath just freeze the entire mountain on the spot?!?! It’s things like this that makes me hate this show.

Vaioumon

There was a dragon for a second there. +100 points, show.

The kid, who’s name I’ve not been able to get down, did not notice the dragon, even though he had a clear view of the sky. -1000 points, show.

Did you ever know that you’re my herrrrro?!

Rob Lucci

help me jesus

Tesla Coil

“Uh… is she going to finish that thing off?” Tatsumi asks, in a voice as if this was hilarious snark. That last line of the episode showed just how nonexistent the show’s tone is.

I sure can’t wait for next week when we get to see Esdeath throwing her boobs at Tatsumi again.

DJ JayRap

“Uh… is she going to finish that thing off” – that line coming up out of nowhere just tells you that this show has no real tone.

Someone send help. Someone send in Parasyte. I need a good show to wash this out of my mouth.

Terrorking

Overall, this wasn’t the worst episode of this show. One of the better ones, actually. That’s really damning praise though, since this is Akame Ga Kill.

Flame_Effigy

And then out of nowhere, Danger Beast Three Headed Horror Monster appeared with no warning. Esdeath finished it off even more quickly, leaving me to wonder what it even was, or why it was there.

Meanwhile, Jimmy apparently doesn’t even care about anything going on. Esdeath, you remember Esdeath, right? I know she hasn’t been in very many episodes, and isn’t a major character, so it can be easy to forget her. Anyway, Esdeath is the chick whose team includes the people responsible for our friend’s death, Jimmy.

Friends, you remember friends, right? I know they haven’t been in very many episodes, and they aren’t major characters, so it can be easy to forget them. Anyway, Esdeath is a bad guy. Jimmy is an idiot. Akame ga Kill is a bad show.

Carly Nagisa

You know instead of just thinking about it for several minutes, you could just…you know….FUCKING RUN. I don’t care if it takes Esdeath only 3.4 seconds to kill these things and she then stop you, just run if you have the chance. It would make this scene feel less stupid than it already is.

Vaioumon

End of episode assessment? Akame ga Kill is not good, but it’s no worse than any other generic anime I’ve seen. Maybe uniquely not good in the outfit thing I went on about, but that’s about it. Then again, I don’t watch much anime, so who knows, and this show is going to get many more chances to worsen my opinion.

Parasyte

glurg

Terrorking

My Little Hand Parasyte Can’t Be This Cute

Carly Nagia

Migi would totally make a good frat boy in college.

Vaioumon

I think I missed this part. Into another anime I’m witnessing for the first time!

Nothing wrong looking here.

Rob Lucci

Nobody said lifesaving alien procedures weren’t gross!

DJ JayRap

This was pretty gross, yeah. I actually walked away to do something else, came back to the second screen shot, and thought I was on the wrong channel.

Carly Nagisa

This wouldn’t be japan if we didn’t have scenes like this. If Shinichi was a girl, this would be way more perverted.

Vaioumon

I have suspicions about my peers. Random alien tentacle hentai scenes in anime they say is good does nothing to alleviate them.

Shinichi’s heart scar.

Terrorking

So I think this scar is supposed to represent his body becoming more alien, that is, different from the norm. Much like Shinichi’s personality is shifting from what’s considered normal. Hm.

Flame_Effigy

The scene where Shinichi said he couldn’t even cry while next to his father in the hospital touched on this a bit.

Carly Nagia

I like this. This basically shows the damage that has been inflicted upon him both physically and metaphorically.

Vaioumon

I don’t think that’s how a scar over a stab wound works.

Dead eyes.

Terrorking

I really enjoyed how Shinichi looked so different while still having the same character design. This scene especially, where he looks completely haggard and his eyes look, well, dead.

Flame_Effigy

Shonen powerups were a lot harder on the body in the 90’s.

Carly Nagisa

He’s almost ready to be a real shonen protagonist, now all he needs is a training arc to give him an iron will and steel determination. All joking aside, I like how the animators were able to capture his gradual change into a different character. Take fucking notes Esdeath.

Vaioumon

Alien healing takes a lot out of you, it seems.

RETURN OF THE MAC

Terrorking

Bitches love hand parasites.

Carly Nagisa

Sorry, this is not a harem show so get out.

Vaioumon

This is a character.

Fuck gravity

Rob Lucci

Pretty good episode overall. A lot of internalizing on Shinichi’s part, which pairs well with his shock and confusion. It’s a sign of character development fitting with the story due to his bizarre and now tragic circumstances. He seems to also be growing abilities due his more vital and direct fusion with Migi – more progression.

One criticism? I’m starting to hate the cliffhangers. This is definitely a show more suited for a marathon, but I’m grateful that it has a good bit of substance.

DJ JayRap

This was a great episode as a follow-up to the previous 2 episodes building up. I like that they’re not hiding that Shinichi is changing. The only reason Shinichi hasn’t noticed this is because he’s concentrated on finding his mother’s killer and outright destroying it. I like that Migi saving his life actually did come with repercussions all throughout. Migi gets hindered in his abilities doing this, and Shinichi further loses his humanity.

He goes from subtle character changes to inhuman abilities. And you know what? It feels natural. Yeah, I agree with Rob though. The cliffhangers are getting to me, purely because at the end of the episode I WAS IN THE ZONE. I WAS IN THE FRIGGIN’ ZONE. AND THEN CLIFFHANGER NOOOOOOOO

Terrorking

I loved this episode, but FUCK the cliffhanger. I was getting so sucked in and then “see you next week on Parasyte!” Yes, that’s how good the show is that you don’t want it to end.

Flame_Effigy

This episode clearly had a lot it wanted to pack into an episode, and this was noticeable with the frequent use of voice overs and lots of rapid scene changes. The episode really picked up at the end, though, with Shinichi running at super speed and leaping over a tall wall with his new fused parastye powers.

Carly Nagisa

Yeah cliffhangers are always annoying to deal with, but to feel completely mad about this just because you want to see more is actually a good thing. It shows us that this show can capture our attention, make us character about the characters and want us to keep watching the show to see what’s next.

Dialing it back to Shinichi, I like the change that is slowly building up between Shinichi in a physical and metaphorical sense. He’s slowly losing his humanity the more powerful he becomes. It kind of reminds me of Yu Yu hakusho in a way. Something that most modern Shonen shows don’t do or try and pretend that there’s a risk/sacrifice to the power up but not really.

Vaioumon

Haha, you see the last two screens? There’s like, almost the entire episode between them. But we spent a hell of a lot of time on AgK. And neither of these were “hook you in” or “push you away” episodes. But this is the one they like, apparently.

Joking on my peers aside, this appears to be a run-of-the-mill “aftermath of a devastating event” episode, and the series hasn’t had many episodes so far, apparently. Nothing to draw me in yet, but time will tell.

Michiko and Hatchin

“Snake, you’ve been spotted.”

Terrorking

Satoshi’s one cold mawfuher.

Carly Nagisa

Is it wrong that I can’t stop thinking of a metal gear joke to this scene?

Vaioumon

Show number 3 that I’ve no knowledge of going into. In this scene, a guy shoots a guy. Seemingly over some gang thing.

These sunglasses are made of steel.

Rob Lucci

I think this episode’s abnormally dark and somber tone makes a bit of sense. Bebop did the same thing near the end, and this show seems to be headed in a direction where it’s tying off plot threads and setting up a finale. While the events with Satoshi seem to be setting up the finale, the confrontation between Michiko and Atsuko seemed to be the real substance to the episode.

Their bizarre and complicated relationship we’ve seen developed over the series seemingly coming to an end was pretty intense, and I’d call the moment where Satoshi laughs and yells “bang!” pretty much iconic. Very well done scene.

DJ JayRap

I usually love episodes with Batista involved, but this one was a little bit more than love. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Batista’s downfall is further driven into him, while Michiko and Atsuko finish off their relationship that’s made complicated by Michiko’s actions throughout all their time having known each other.

Satoshi driving past Michiko with his gun and yelling “BANG!” was the best moment in this episode.

Terrorking

Strong mood whiplash from last week’s episode that ended with dancing Hatchin. There’s anywhere from 5-7 episodes left, so I guess the show’s kicking it into high gear and wrapping up its plot. Atsuko is what stood out to me this episode. I feel like her relationship with Michiko could’ve used more development than the Lupin-Zenigata thing they had going on in earlier episodes. Maybe an episode devoted to them instead of the scattered bits that were strewn across the series up to this point.

Flame_Effigy

Lotta weird animation in this episode. It was mostly a plot episode, setting up things to come, like a lot of this week’s episodes.

Carly Nagisa

I dunno what to say that hasn’t been said already. So just search youtube and play the real folk blues to the end of the episode, it really makes you feel nostalgic here.

Vaioumon

Oh okay. Another one that everyone said is good, yet we’re spending very little time on.

At the start of this episode, somebody told me this is the greatest thing ever, as well as mentioned that it’s done by the same people as Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy. Those are all very great shows, and this individual episode taken out of context does absolutely nothing to live up to that legacy. All we see in this episode are gang people shooting each other and yelling incoherently in South America somewhere. Yet somehow everybody has a Japanese name, which is extremely off-putting to me, for the same reason that the outfits in AgK bothered me, the setting doesn’t match at all. The only thing of note is the tall, trenchcoat and sunglasses wearing, giant blonde afro lady. Neat design.

I dunno, maybe there was supposed to be something with the characters. Given the other shows these people have worked on, all of these characters might have had any number of character building moments to get invested in. It’s just that none of that really shows here, nothing grabs you. I’d be willing to say that most episodes of Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy could have been taken out of context and still enjoyed. Cowboy Bebop and Champloo both had their episodes where things were less wacky and more somber near the end though, and it sounds like this is the part that this show has reached, so…

Music at the end of the ep was pretty cool though.

Shippuden

Naruto. Naruto is the king.

Rob Lucci

None of this “new generation surpasses the old” bullshit makes any sense by the end of the series. Speaking of irrelevant nonsense, the Rasenshuriken’s consequences? Well, remember how Chidori was once a straining last resort move? Yeah, this series doesn’t remember any of that.

DJ JayRap

We drop the entire “THE NEW GENERATION WILL SURPASS THE OLD” nonsense real quick, if I remember this right. So this scene actually put me to sleep. And then I woke up to Kurenai touching her stomach and passed out.

Terrorking

Remember, Kurenai is supposedly a Jonin. Screw that, she’s supposedly a ninja. She’ll never do anything for the rest of the series.

Also, “HOW AM DO CONSISTENT ANIMATION?”

Carly Nagisa

There’s so many things to take apart from this scene and only so little time to cover them all. So I’m just gonna dive into this one. Why exactly are the writers trying so hard to make Shikamaru into some sort of badass Asuma replacement?

Vaioumon

I don’t remember this man in the episode.

OH, that’s Kurenai? Lol.

THAT woman.

Rob Lucci

I don’t understand what was going on with Kabuto’s VA. Orochimaru didn’t emphasise the word, but Kabuto kept going “THAT woman.” I’m nitpicking this point so I’ll forget the horrible awful filler arc that’s coming up.

Terrorking

Strap yourselves in, ladies and gentlemen, for the worst filler arc in Nardo up to this point. Joy.

Flame_Effigy

And I have actually not seen the upcoming filler arc, so this should be an absolute delight.

Carly Nagisa

Are we sure this isn’t Sasuke in a dress or his long lost sister we never heard about?

Vaioumon

I’ll give Nardo this, the episode came off a fight, went home, had about 4 characters say their end of arc stuff, flashed to the bad guy, and started working on the next (filler) arc. Nardo wins the “Moving the damn show along” award tonight.

One Piece

How animation works.

Terrorking

“HOW AM DO CONSISTENT ANIMATION!?”

Carly Nagisa

Toei in a nutshell.

Vaioumon

This is a very interesting pole.

A face only a mother can love.

Rob Lucci

That’s me begging for this arc to be over.

Terrorking

Overall, this episode felt like a whole lot of fake drama. They want Usopp back, he wants to come back, but they want him to beg to come back before they let him back in. This didn’t need to take 23 minutes to accomplish.

Flame_Effigy

Funny story, I actually didn’t remember Usopp leaving in the first place,  so I had no idea what was going on for most of this episode. Then I remembered thanks to one of the million flashbacks, and then I didn’t care because it’s One Piece.

Watching these scenes over makes me think to past me “Was this really enjoyable to watch week by week?” It drags on way too much and it takes away whatever important message that was to be said here. Maybe if Merry was hinted as a living being way earlier than Skypeia, then maybe I would feel more impact here….but I don’t.

I like One Piece, I’m likely to be biased towards it compared to my piers. This was a pretty decent thing in the manga, and being dragged out over this entire episode instead of like, 7 minutes at most, completely kills any feeling for it.
